Training and communication are terms that are often used interchangeably. Why? They both deal with knowledge - in both instances you are equipping your audience with new information. So what is the difference? Training is used when you want your audience to DO something. Communication is used when you want your audience to KNOW something.
Training and communication can often be packaged together. For example, say your business is implementing a new system. First you would communicate that a new system will be implemented. This communication might include who will be affected, what the change is (i.e. a new system), and when the change will be implemented. Then you would follow up with training, i.e. how to use the system in the workplace. In this example, both communication and training are important as you want the audience to KNOW a change is coming and you want the audience to DO something when the change takes place.
